Rotarian Myeshi Briley is Keynote Speaker at 2011 NOHS Conference
Myeshi Briley,MS,
HS-BCP Human Services Board Certified Practitioner, HS-BCP and a charter member
of NW Houston Sunset Rotary Club served as the keynote speaker detailing
Education on Epilepsy at the A.C.C.E.S.S. National Organization for Human
Services annual conference on October 21, 2011 in San Antonio, Texas, which
lasted Oct 17-22. Following her address
the group broke out into 6 workshops focusing on specifics encountered by Human
Services leaders in the schools and private sector. Ms. Briley stated that the
whole of the individual with epilepsy should be targeted for improvement in
their everyday life. Epilepsy is a disorder of the brain. Seizures interfere with the brains normal function.
They can cause a person to have sudden changes in consciousness, movement, or
sensation. Having a single seizure does
not mean a person has epilepsy- epilepsy is the name for seizures that happen
more than once without a known treatable cause such as fever or low blood
sugar. Also, service dogs can be used for alert of seizures.
